Overturn the felony “lynching” conviction!
Drop all the remaining charges!

The following letter was written by the Partisan Defense Committee.

Michele Beal Bagneris
Pasadena City Attorney
Office of the City Attorney/City Prosecutor
City Hall
100 N. Garfield Avenue, Room N-210
Pasadena, CA 91109

Dear Ms. Bagneris,

The Partisan Defense Committee is writing to protest the conviction of Jasmine Abdullah (Richards) on June 1st. She is the first black person to be tried and convicted for felony “lynching” under a law supposedly intended to criminalize the extra-legal murder of black people. It is grotesque that this law is now being wielded by the police against those who actively protest the modern-day legal lynchings carried out by the racist cops.

Black Lives Matter activists, like Abdullah, have been subjected to a barrage of harassment, surveillance and persecution. She still faces prosecution on four misdemeanor charges that stem from her efforts to expose the cover up of the killing of Kendrec McDade by the Pasadena Police Department. Pursuing these charges is an attempt to intimidate and silence any protest against rampant police repression.

The Partisan Defense Committee demands: Overturn the felony “lynching” conviction! Drop all the remaining charges!

Sincerely,
Kathy Ikegami
